I only got PR2 a couple of days ago, and i notice that right at the end of a good article on Iraq and the occupation, comes that ambiguous statement about "supporting the ongoing fight of the Iraqi resistance....." Well, of course, we all want to see an end to the occupation but we don't want the Americans (etc) replaced by the islamic fundamentalists that are at the head of the various resistances It's ambiguous because of the position that WP take on support for the resistance there - apparently oblivious to the problems outlined above. revolutionaries have to fight for the independent action of the working class - such as the Basra oil workers who are making it difficult for the occupiers

I think Steve might have a point that given the fracturing of Iraqi resistance movements, including many bent on a vicious sectarian war which far from being resistance to imperialism actually stregthens it, that merely saying we support 'the resistance' may not be clear enough. We should support military actions against US and UK imperialism, support the Iraqi working class organising itself (such as the Basra oil workers)and be for the working class to come to the fore of resistance against imperialism.
